Week 8: May 9-13
Monday, May 9
- Scribble: Listen to the The House That Built Me by Miranda Lambert. Write about a place that has built you.
- "I Remember" Poem Assignment
- Read the poem by Edward Montez and make a Says/Does chart on the back
- Brainstorm 20 memories that you could include in your poem (you probably won't use all of them). Focus on specific images, like a still photograph that captures one moment of an event.
- Word gathering - gather images and words that will help you describe your memories.
- Rough Draft - put your poem together. In your rough draft, include the following:
1. Repetition - Start each stanza with "I Remember" or "And"
2. End your poem by starting the stanza with an "ing" verb, and ending with the phrase "but that was yesterday."
3. Use figurative language
Metaphors/Similes
Sensory Images (Details that appeal to sight, sound, taste, touch, smell)
Personification - giving living characteristics to non-living things
Must have specific images - like a snapshot. Do not over explain your images.
Must be 10 stanzas long and include capitals and punctuation. - Revise and edit your poem with a partner.

- Watch "A Life Story in Five Short Chapters" by Portia Nelson
Answer these two questions:
1. What is happening in this poem? What is it about? Summarize the story.
2. How could you relate this poem to you? - Edit and Revise Your "I Remember" Poem
- Read Literature Circle Novel and Work on Packet
